Congratulations on your acceptance to Samuel Merritt University! We’re ready to help you take the next steps to complete your enrollment. 

Prepare for Arrival

We’ve put together some resources that you’ll find useful as you prepare for classes. For starters, you’ll learn how to obtain your SMU student ID and other important information. 

Now that you’re accepted, your next steps are to respond to your offer of admission and complete your deposit. These instructions are provided in your Admit letter. 

Once you complete your deposit, you will then be provided SMU/Okta credentials to access Workday via MySMU

Workday Onboarding Tasks include various acknowledgements and links to the post-admission requirements you need to complete, such as:

About Your SMU Login

As a member of our educational community, you are granted access to SMU’s information resources through your SMU login.  Please take a moment to review the items below to better understand how to initiate and maintain your access.

Access for New Students

  • This is my first time attending Samuel Merritt University.
    • You will receive an email with the subject Samuel Merritt University Login Information.  This will provide you with your username, email address, and instructions for getting started.
  • I am a returning student, and I remember my username.
    • To reactivate your account, please reset your password. Through this process, a validation code will be sent to your personal email address. Click here to get started and follow the steps to complete the password reset.
  • I am a returning student, and I forgot my username.
    • Please contact the SMU IT Service Desk for assistance: 510.907.2555 option 1.

SMU Login Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is eligible?
    • All currently enrolled students, students admitted to upcoming enrollment periods, and graduates of SMU degree programs have active logins.
  • Information Security
    • Once you receive your username and initial password, set a personal password. This may be done conveniently from any web browser or mobile device. 
    • Once set, your password will expire in one year. You may reset your password at any time. Changing passwords regularly will help ensure your personal information is secure. With single-sign-on access to confidential personal, academic, financial, and health information, it is critical that you keep your login information private and do not share it with anyone.
  • Your Account Identity
    • Student login and email addresses are based on the student’s preferred first name and last name. Usernames have a maximum length of 16 characters.
    • Official last name or preferred first name changes may be submitted to the Office of the Registrar at any time. Once processed, your display name will automatically be updated in our systems. However, your username and email address will remain the same as originally assigned.
  • Access Policies
    • Student logins are deactivated upon withdrawal, dismissal, or completion of non-degree track courses. Graduates of SMU may continue to use their email addresses indefinitely. Some resources for alumni, such as library research databases, are restricted.

Deferment Request Form (Students admitted to Fall 2026 and beyond, for easier access make sure to Login to MySMU first as this is a Workday process)

Deferment Policy: Admitted students are limited to one deferment request per program.  You cannot defer beyond 12 months after your original offer of admission.  If you hope to defer past 12 months, you will need to reapply.  Deferment is considered pending receipt of your tuition deposit, letter of intent, availability and other factors.  Deferment forms are due 30 days prior to the start of the program to which you have been accepted.  You will be notified of the status of your request within 10 business days.

  • Our recruiters will always contact you from an @samuelmerritt.edu email address. We do not use personal email accounts.
  • We will never ask for payment, banking information, or personal identification documents as part of the hiring process.
