Requirements for Board of Registered Nursing/National Council Licensure Examination
Samuel Merritt University helps internationally educated nurses prepare for licensure in California.
If you received your nursing education outside the United States, but wish to become licensed in the state of California, you may need to complete additional courses before you’re eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
If the Board of Registered Nursing determines you do need extra coursework, you may apply to Samuel Merritt University as a “nursing special status student,” which will allow you to enroll at SMU as a non-degree student to take only the specific courses and clinical rotations you need.
Return completed application, $300 application fee, and a copy of your letter from the California Board of Registered Nursing indicating your required courses to:
