About Me
My interest in nursing was sparked by a love of science, a dedication to social justice, and eight years of experience as a veterinary technician. I began my nursing career in 2005 after completion of the first year of UCSF's MEPN program. From 2005-2009 I worked at UCSF Medical Center on a kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant unit while completing my master's degree in Advanced Community Health and International Nursing. After four and a half years as a bedside RN, I left UCSF to start my journey as a nurse educator at Samuel Merritt University. I have a passion for supporting students, community focused health care, and supporting women with breastfeeding. I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to music, eating good food, dancing, and being outdoors.
Education
After graduating high school in Fairfield, CA I began taking courses at Solano Community College. I then transferred to San Francisco State University and focused on a degree in English with the intent of teaching high school. After a few semesters I decided to leave school, work full time, and have fun in San Francisco. I began working in veterinary hospitals and loved it. I soon realized that I needed to return to school in order to support myself in the Bay Area and continue to grow and develop as a person. After much thought about whether to go into medical, veterinary, or nursing school, I decided on nursing because of the care, compassion, and time given to patients. I finished my BA and then began prerequisites for nursing school. I was accepted to the MEPN program at UCSF. I was licensed in 2005 and after some time off received my MSN in 2009.
