About Me
I have been hired as Associate Professor and Social Work Department Chair. In addition to practicing as a hospice and medical social worker, I previously served as the executive director of several non-profit organizations and as a program manager of HIV/AIDS Services for the Salt Lake County Health Department. As the Executive Director of the Rainbow Community Center of Contra Costa County I developed school-based programs for LGBTQ+ youth through a five year multi-million dollar grant from the Contra Costa County Department of Behavioral Health Services. I also developed mental health and case management programs for the LGBTQ+ community and programs for LGBTQ+ elders. I have received funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, US Conference of Mayors, Centers for Disease Control, California Office of Mental Health Services Administration (MHSA), Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) programs, and the California Office of Emergency Services (CALOES), along with funding from many private foundations.
Education
I am a graduate of the UC Berkeley School of Social Welfare’s doctoral program, the University of Washington’s MSW program with a concentration in administration and community practice and Westminster College of Salt Lake with a BS degree in business management and a minor in sociology.
Teaching Interests
I love teaching and have been adjunct faculty at San Jose State University (SJSU) School of Social Work, Cal State East Bay (CSUEB) School of Social Work, Fordham University School of Social Work and the CSUEB Department of Human Development and Women Studies. I teach social work practice, policy, research, and community organizing courses. I have also taught the capstone courses at CSUEB and SJSU and enjoy supporting students who are completing their graduate research projects. I have guided many students through the process of receiving approval from their university’s IRB/human subjects committees and completing their own research projects.
