About Me
I have taught courses in the Bachelors of Nursing Science program or Accelerated Bachelors of Nursing Science program at Samuel Merritt since 2018. I have clinical experience working in various nursing specialties including internal medicine (endocrinology, cardiovascular, gastroenterology), medical-surgical units, telemetry units oncology, primary care, case management, and public health nursing. I also have experience managing public health-related programs or interventions with homeless and low-income groups in various community based settings in Los Angeles and Bay Area, California.
Education
I am a licensed RN in California. I obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) with a focus on International Family Planning and Population from University of California, Los Angeles. I hold a PhD in Public Health from Lancaster University Faculty of Health and Medicine, United Kingdom.
Teaching Interests
My teaching interests including Community Health Nursing and Global Health Theory and Practice, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Healthy Aging, Research methods and Evidence-based Practice in Nursing, Nursing Leadership and Professional Development.
Scholarly Interests
As health-related concerns of underrepresented women are often excluded from mainstream research, my research focuses on the impact of individual and structural determinants of health on healthcare access for women who are low-income, racial and ethnic minorities, or with disabilities. My PhD dissertation applied the social-ecological model and intersectionality framework to examine how multiple layers of influence and social identities overlap with macro-level structural factors (such as poverty and structural racism) and lead to health inequalities. My research goals center on further exploring how the intersection of gender, race-ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and other social identities perpetrates health-related inequalities for underrepresented women.
