Personal Note:

As a nursing faculty member here at Samuel Merritt University, I believe that one of my core responsibilities is simple; to teach.  However, teaching is more than just the presentation of facts.  Learning is more than the memorization of the content that was presented.  I believe teaching is the facilitation of learning; learning being the process in which a concept is seized by the learner and then independently applied in varying situations.  This awareness is crucial in the continually evolving and ever changing healthcare environment in which professional nurse's practice.  In order to facilitate this kind of learning, I focus on several goals: introducing and fostering critical thinking, developing problem-solving strategies, and facilitating the acquisition of life-long learning skills.
