Samuel Merritt University's Ethnic Health Institute (EHI) would like to extend a warm invitation to the SMU community to join us for our largest community event.
The annual Frank E. Staggers, Sr., MD, Hypertension Sunday is a blood pressure screening awareness event that takes place at various faith-based communities in Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco Counties during the month of February. Held during National Heart Health Month, the goal is to bring awareness to hypertension and heart disease, which remains the number one killer in both men and women in the United States, and disproportionately affects underserved and ethnic communities.
This year’s “Hypertension Sunday” will take place February 25, 2018, at various locations. This 25-year tradition brings together over 800 community members and volunteers to bring heart disease awareness, and hopefully prevention, to Bay Area community members. Partnering organizations also include American Heart Association, Donor Network West, National Kidney Foundation, and East Bay Regional Parks District.
