Samuel Merritt University's 2017 Commencement ceremonies will take place on Friday, May 26 at The Paramount Theatre in Oakland. A 9:30 AM ceremony for Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, Master of Occupational Therapy and Master Physician Assistant programs. A 1:30 PM ceremony will be held for graduates of the Doctor of Nursing Practice, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN and ABSN programs), and Master of Science in Nursing program graduates.

Gary Hall, Jr. is a former Olympic swimmer. He was diagnose with Type 1 diabetes in 1999 as he was training for the 2000 Olympic Games; he realized he had an opportunity to prove that diabetes does not have to hold you back from achieving your dreams. Mr. Hall went on to win 10 Olympic medals over three games. Mr. Hall retired from swimming to turn his focus on helping those with diabetes lead long, productive lives.
